Dhow cruise in Nosy Be
Duration: 8 days / 7 nights
Your cruise stages : Nosy Be – Anjiabe – Andrahibo – Nosy Berafia – Ambariomena – Nosy Be
You will sail aboard a dhow entirely made with traditional tools by Sakalava carpenters. Its construction, without any preliminary plan, required several years of work during which nothing was spared to make it the most beautiful dhow in the region.
At 16.50m long and 5.05m wide, everything on board was designed to take exotic dreams of discovery beyond the norm.
Six crewmen, enormous space, African woollen carpets, chiselled trays and copper teapots, comfortable cushions, huge wooden pulleys and thick ropes make up the daily décor of a dhow trip, in the generous shade of an immense cotton canvas.

Night at hotel.
Day 2. NOSY BE – ANJIABE
3 hours crossing to meet everything that moves on the sea (fishermen’s pirogues, heavily loaded dhows, whales, whale sharks, turtles, schooners with generous sails). Snorkeling as you pass over small, shallow and easily accessible reefs.
Disembarkation on the beach of Anjiabe which spreads its white sand over miles. The lagoon is superb and wild, the bush behind is immense, and you are the only one to enjoy it, lazing around or walking around to discover what is hidden there. In any case, the unexpected will be your ally. Aperitifs, meals and talks accompany this early evening in the bush.
Day 3. ANJIABE – ANDRAHIBO
Get up around 6am to enjoy the calm, freshness and awakening of nature. The exotic breakfast lends itself well to this gentle morning contemplation. After diving along the way on small reefs accessible by sail or motor, you will reach the place called Andrahibo where you will find rice fields and immense forest set back from a beach very different from the day before. The lemurs are often present and you will discover a bush even wilder.
Day 4. ANDRAHIBO – NOSY BERAFIA
Get up as usual to discover an island in the Radama Archipelago: Nosy Bérafia. A red island with a very Malagasy temperament, Berafia is covered with hills and cultivated plains. The forest is abundant and you will find yourself in the world of colonial plantations from the last century. You will come across people everywhere and children laughing and curious. You are between lagoon and forest, and here the magpie crows are sacred, so they are very present… Depending on your desires, you can stay two days on this magical island.
Day 5. NOSY BERAFIA
You can stay on this beautiful island and also visit one or two of the surrounding islands, snorkeling for the ones or hiking on the large island of Berafia which is full of surprises. At this stage of the trip, everyone has taken their marks and you are not quite the same: you will be in the middle of your trip and you must let the unpredictable take its place.
Day 6. NOSY BERAFIA – AMBARIOMENA
We go up North to discover a sort of Malagasy fiord bordered by primary forest which sinks into a deep network of mangroves. Beyond this magnificent nature, you meet men who communicate to you this softness, this availability and this so precious casualness. Dhows and passing schooners stop in this bay every day, which has been a sleeping stopover for centuries.
Day 7. AMBARIOMENA – NOSY BE
You have the whole day to reach Nosy Be which you will reach around 5pm. Make the most of this last day. You will walk along immense beaches, dive on magnificent sites and enjoy everything that is within your reach. In the afternoon, you will send your heavy cotton sails one last time, just to feel yourself sliding docilely into the heart of the singing ropes. The grandiose landscape, magnified by the golden light of the afternoon, accompanies your happiness for a few more hours, having lived an extraordinary experience, as close as possible to a world. Return to the crater and disembarkation.
Night at hotel.
